Otters, Owls and Other Stuff
Vinalhaven Library – September 12, 2024
Kirk Gentalen is a nature observer who lived on Vinalhaven Island with his wife (the lovely Amy Palmer) and son (great kid Leif) from 2004-2015. While living on island, just about anything nature wise was fair game for Kirk to observe and document. A lot of cool stuff was thusly seen - from birds to slime molds, spraint to pellets, and all the best pools visited (both tidal and vernal) – and a lot of great people were met along the way.
For this presentation Gentalen will be sharing his favorite stories, photos and chuckles from his times exploring the island, as well as dishing out much appreciation and gratitude for the opportunities he offered.
Kirk Gentalen is the mid-coast Maine Regional Stewardship Manager for the Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT), with the Fox Islands and St. George peninsula being his ‘turf’. He writes a blog – Nature Bummin with Kirk Gentalen (mcht.org/story-tag/nature- bummin) and continues to steward MCHT’s Vinalhaven properties (as well as Lane’s Island). And he loves each and every ferry ride.
